A Love For Bees

“I like pulling on a baggy bee suit, forgetting myself and getting as close to the bees' lives as they will let me, remembering in the process that there is more to life than the merely human.”

Kevin Rudat first became connected with agriculture in high school when he obtained employment at Pallman Farms in Clark Summit, Pennsylvania. It was a job he loved, and he still mentions found memories of the work and the Pallman family often. After high school, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Pennsylvania State University. While there, his passion for nature was further fueled while teaching science units to young students at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center as part of his teaching practicums. He decided to continue with the work after university, and he obtained employment as a manager at Marino Lookout Farms in Natick, Massachusetts. This experience piqued his interest in water conservation and irrigation. He is now a Certified Irrigation Designer, Certified Irrigation Contractor, and a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor. He is one of less than ten individuals in Massachusetts holding all three certifications from the Irrigation Association, and he is also a EPA WaterSense Partner with vast knowledge of irrigation and water conservation. He enjoys speaking about the subject and has addressed groups at Tower Hill Botanical Garden in Boylston, Massachusetts. Kevin now gives his time to Stateline Irrigation Supply,Inc in Tyngsborough Massachusetts and moonlights through his own consulting business, K. Rudat and Associates, LLC. He became interested in beekeeping as a hobby when he met his wife, bought a home, and started a garden. He has completed beekeeping school through the Worcester County Bee Keepers Association.

Jessica Wilson was first exposed to bee keeping as a little girl on her grandparents farm in Norfolk, Massachusetts. The fourteen hives they cared for pollenated the fields and led to bountiful crops. Like many other members of her family, Jessica had a love for music and also possessed a need for dance. She graduated from Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, Massachusetts and later attended SUNY Purchase. She majored in dance and psychology, minored in philosophy, and graduated cum laude. Jessica became interested in bee keeping as a hobby when she started a garden with her husband. Professionally, Jessica has run her own ballet school. She has been teaching dance for more than twenty years and is happy to have been the owner and Director of Metrowest Ballet, formerly located in Hudson, Massachusetts, for over a decade. Before founding her own school, Jessica held the position of Associate Director of Ballet Workshop New England, Artistic Associate of Massachusetts Youth Ballet, and she taught at Boston Ballet School summer dance and other programs. Currently Jessica is the Director of Dance at  Hopkinton Center for the Arts.

And of course...Woody.
